Plans change. Here's exactly what happens when they do. These rules apply once online payments are active. Until then, booking requests carry no charge and cancellations have no financial consequence.
When an act confirms a booking, the booker pays a 25% deposit to hold the date. That deposit is held by ShinGig until the act performs and the booker marks them as arrived. At that point the deposit is released to the act.
Situation
What happens
Act declines the request
No charge. The request is closed, the booker can book someone else.
Act never confirms (request expires)
No charge. The request lapses and the booker is free to rebook.
Booker cancels before the act confirms
No charge. The request is withdrawn at no cost.
Booker cancels 7 or more days before the event date
Full deposit refunded. No penalty.
Booker cancels less than 7 days before the event date
Deposit is forfeited. The act keeps it to cover the short-notice lost booking.
Act cancels after confirming
Full deposit refunded to the booker. We take this seriously — repeated act cancellations can result in removal from the platform.
When payments launch, ShinGig charges 5% to the booker and 5% to the act on each transaction. These fees cover payment processing and keeping the platform running. They apply to the deposit at the time of payment. Refunds of the deposit do not include the service fee.
Payments are coming soon — browsing and requesting are free in the meantime.
If something goes wrong that these rules don't cover — act no-showed, event cancelled by a third party, or anything else — email us at hello@shingig.com and we'll work through it with both sides.
